In early December 2017, we held the first meeting of our Wheelchair Services Procurement Board, which will oversee the process of procuring a new wheelchair service for children, young people and adults across the whole of Surrey when the current contracts come to an end.

We are delighted to have Nick Markwick, Co-Chair of Surrey Coalition of Disabled People, as a member of our Procurement Board, ensuring the views and experiences of wheelchair users help shape the new service.

Another engagement event to seek the wider views of wheelchair users and their carers and families from across Surrey, and to consider whether community services and the equipment service could be combined, took place at Leatherhead Leisure Centre on 7 February 2018. A feedback summary on this event can be read here.

Feedback from the event has subsequently been used to help design the new service and shape the final service specification, which will set out the service we plan to commission. A key focus has been on ensuring the service is person-centred and integrated, with organisations working together to ensure services, and support, are accessible and meet local needs.

We hosted an additional workshop 17 April 2019 at Dorking Halls to share with our stakeholders how we have interpreted their feedback and to present the newly developed service specification for their review. You can see the workshop engagement report pdf here
