Did you know that you can book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and even view some of your GP records online? You can do it using a computer, smart phone or tablet – whichever you prefer – and at any time of day. It’s convenient, quick, and easy to do and your information is secure. Best of all the service is free!

Everyone who is registered with a GP can have access to their practice’s online services. It means you can access information like your vaccinations history and test results.

How can I get GP online services?
By following these four easy steps:
1. Tell your practice you would like to start using GP online services
2. Complete a short form
3. Return the form to the practice. You will need to take one form of photo ID and a proof of address with you. If you don’t have any ID the practice will need to confirm your identity or you may need to answer questions about personal information in your GP record
4. Once you’ve signed up you will receive a letter with your unique username and password, and also a link to where you can log in.

I’m not yet registered with a GP – how do I do it?
Once you’ve found a practice near where you live, you’ll need to formally register as an NHS patient by completing a form and taking photo ID and proof of address with you. Once you’ve completed the form NHS England will transfer your medical records to your new practice and write to you to confirm your registration. Don’t forget to register for GP online services at the same time. Parents or guardians can register their child and will need to take the child’s birth certificate.

I’m not good with the internet – where can I get help?
Some local libraries offer help and support. NHS Choices have some useful information on becoming a more confident internet user including how to keep yourself safe online.

If you are feeling unwell and need to speak to a doctor or nurse please make an appointment with your practice. Appointments and further advice can still be given by your practice in person or on the telephone, if you prefer.
