Following a competitive tender process earlier this year, Millbrook Healthcare Group, specialist providers of wheelchair services and mobility equipment across the UK, will provide wheelchair services across Surrey from 1 July 2020.

This follows a joint procurement process carried out by the six Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across Surrey (led by NHS Surrey Downs CCG); NHS East Surrey, NHS Guildford and Waverley, NHS North East Hampshire and Farnham, NHS North West Surrey, NHS Surrey Downs and NHS Surrey Heath CCG.

A broad range of wheelchair service users, carers and clinicians from across Surrey were involved in designing the new provision of service throughout 2019, which saw invaluable advice, views and suggestions gathered on how we can improve this service to meet the needs of users. Millbrook Healthcare and the CCGs are committed to their ongoing involvement during the transition process and beyond, to ensure the new wheelchair service continually meets the expectations of service users and carers.

The new provider will bring a fully integrated care model and personalised service ensuring that clinical assessments, repairs and maintenance, delivery and collection, specialist seating and ongoing support are all provided through one organisation and a single point of access for clients.

The CCGs will now work closely with the current service providers to ensure a smooth transition (led by NHS Surrey Downs CCG), to ensure all patient records are carefully and confidentially handed over to Millbrook Healthcare so they can deliver a service that better supports the independence of people using wheelchairs from July 2020.

Updates on the new service and its development over the coming months will be provided on this page. Users will continue to access the service via their current provider up until July 2020 and will be contacted directly by the new provider in the new year.
